What sizes are available?
Our standard diameter sizes are 20cm, 20cm Tall and 30cm - see illustration. All lampshades are made to suit the original artwork to give the best interpretation so sizes will vary and not all sizes will be available for each artwork. See individual listing for details of sizes available. Please contact us if you have any bespoke requests.
What bulb should I use?
LED or low wattage bulb (maximum 40w) are recommended for use with the lampshades. The product photographs show lampshades illuminated by daylight /cool white LED bulbs (over 4000K).
What colour lining should I choose?
We have four different lampshade linings available: white; brushed gold; brushed silver and brushed copper. Each listing considers the best lining to match the artwork but you are welcome to select a colour of your choice (please email us at time of ordering). White linings are used as standard and gives off the brightest and most light. For mood lighting, the gold and copper linings give a lovely warm glow.
What fittings do you use?
Lampshades fit to lamp bases by a connecting ring at the base of the shade. For ceiling lampshades, the connecting ring is at the top of the shade. These rings have a removable converter (small plastic adapter) to fit either UK or EU light fittings. The connecting ring has a 4cm fixed drop to a lamp base which should be enough to hide the bulb and light fitting. If this height is unsuitable for your lamp base, the lampshades can be made with duplex fittings which allow you to adjust this height by using a lampshade carrier – if so, please contact us to discuss before ordering.
What materials are used?
All fabrics are printed here in the UK. Our most used fabric is a soft cotton twill which gives perfect colour reproduction. We also use Duchess Satin and Luxury Linen depending on the design. Lampshade linings are made from PVC and approved for fire safety by The Lighting Association. Lampshades are wrapped using biodegradable cellophane.
Can you make a lampshade using my artwork/photograph?
Possibly, depending on the image quality and dimensions of your artwork. We would be delighted to appraise your images and advise on what is possible. All we need is a high resolution image in jpg or tiff format (please send via wetransfer.com to retain image integrity).
How do you collaborate with artists?
We can make lampshades for artists to sell themselves on their websites, open studios, galleries etc at wholesale prices (please contact us for the latest price list). All lampshades sold by Esk Valley Lampshades in the web shop or in our outlets are credited to the artist and a commission is paid each time a sale is made. The artist retains full copyright.
Which lamp bases do you use in your product images?
Wood lamp bases are handmade in oak by Nick Hammond. Nick hand turns his beautiful lamp bases at his workshop in Rutland. We have worked with him to design the base for our signature 20cm Tall lampshades. This and the very popular tripod base are available in our shop.
The glass bases shown in our photograph are made by LilysByDesignUK from vintage and handmade glass. With so many styles and sizes to choose from, we suggest you take a look at their Etsy page to choose your perfect base.
Can I see your lampshades in any shops?
Yes, many of our lampshades are for sale in Isobel May, a beautiful shop in Flowergate, Whitby. We also make beautiful lampshade collections for various shops across North Yorkshire.
